This past weekend, the Thighs and Lows Blog Confidence Workshop kicked off. Members of the Thighs and Lows Blog Facebook Group were given the chance to sign up for a free photoshoot with Nerdie Birdie Photography which included makeup and hair. The idea came from my first blog post, Get Your Confidence Back. I had hoped that getting women all dolled up and in front of a camera would be empowering. So, the date was set.
To be honest, the attendance was lower than I had hoped for but it was a great learning curve. I was able to really figure out what worked and what didn’t so that the next event will be even better! Snacks were provided, including compliment cookies from my favorite local bakery, Baked by Amys. I wanted it all to be a positive experience from the minute a guest walked into the door. Peace and Calming essential oil was wafting through the air and compliments were peppered throughout the decor, setting the mood for an uplifting night.
Mary Kay Consultant, Laura Pedersen, welcomed guests in by setting them up with a custom makeup tray just for them. After the foundation was color matched and faces were makeup free, the fun began!
Rachael, one of the guests, was asked who she wanted to be that night. Full glam? Retro? Natural? I was excited when she arrived to the conclusion that she wanted to have a retro look, complete with winged eyeliner and bright red lips.
After the makeup application, her hair was curled and brushed out for a vintage Hollywood glam wave.
Rachael posted in the group before her arrival about what to wear. The suspense was killing me!
But after she pulled on the red dress, everything really came together. We threw on some accessories and the shoot began.
She was an instant pro, modeling her heart out over the festive backdrop our photographer, Crystal, put together. And, as to be expected the photos came out beautifully. Crystal’s talent for photography always shines through her art.
And while the photos were beautiful and it was wonderful to make new friends, the most rewarding thing of the night was this comment from Rachael.
“I had so much fun and can’t wait to see my photos. I haven’t felt that pretty in a really long time!”
That alone made every minute worth it.
I liked the red better too, what a great idea to throw a party like this 🙂
