This past Saturday, the Thighs and Lows Blog Facebook group met up for the Summer event, Misery Loves Company. The name of the event was quite fitting being that swim suits were involved. The girls gathered at Torrid at the Domain in Austin to try on bathing suits in a body positive atmosphere. Let’s face it, swimsuit shopping can be a total drag on anyone’s self confidence. If we get feedback only from our inner thoughts, it’s most likely going to be negative. The group gathered to combat this with encouragement and thoughtful opinions.

Torrid was an absolute perfect host, providing the group with sodas and cupcakes along with top of the line service. We all walked in feeling like VIPs. Team members, Savannah, Kristen and Stacey became instant friends spending their evenings getting to know each of the event attendees.

Event guests Joy, Kristyna, Staci and Laura grabbed several suits and hit up the dressing rooms to find the best match. Each would come out and tell us what she liked and didn’t like about the bathing suit, then the group would offer their additional thoughts. This helped each attendee decide which suit was the best investment for them. And trust me, they needed it. We had several women in distress over which suit they liked better on them. I thought some of them would give up and walk out with multiples.

It’s pretty amazing how the night transformed in a matter of two hours. At first there was tension in the air. Several ladies commented that they hadn’t owned a great swimsuit for a long time and were a little nervous about trying them on. Can anyone blame them? However, and this is my favorite part, they each were surprised about finding options they truly felt confident in. Many left with a black Torrid bag containing a brand new suit.

The most rewarding wrap up ended up being a post that Kristyna made the next day. She had gone back to Torrid to shop more! It’s great to see how events like this are helping women see how beautiful they truly are. Doesn’t she look killer in those red shorts?
