Last year around this time I let out a huge rant about work out clothing lines. I can’t believe there are so many athletic companies that don’t have any plus sizes available to the general public. It literally blows my mind. Do they think we don’t want to work out too?
With the help of my Facebook group, we were able to find a few solutions to this conundrum. We discovered there was a brand out there called Rainbeau Curves that had some great items, as well as, some Fabletics and Old Navy pieces. But still, there were so many companies completely looking the other way.
And then Nike made a glorious announcement earlier this month. They would finally be carrying plus size clothing! Now, they are certainly late to the party but I can’t criticize anyone getting on board to serve a group of women who often go unnoticed in the fashion industry.
Nike will now feature sports bras that go beyond your typical DD. Can I just take a moment to say how excited I am about this fact? It’s so hard to find sports bras that cater to full figured women. The extended size range will offer clothing in sizes 1X-3X and it’s not going to just be their normal clothing line sized up. Nike is actually tailoring clothing to flatter women who aren’t straight up and down. Can we all just give them a standing ovation?
“We know that body weights are distributed differently for everybody and as we look at plus size, there is more variance,” Helen Boucher, Nike’s vice president of women’s training apparel, said in a statement. “When we design for plus size, we aren’t just proportionately making our products larger. That doesn’t work because as we know, everyone’s weight distribution is different.”
Well done, Nike. Well done.
